With the development of the IT field in recent years, the use of EC in the apparel industry has been increasing, and the return of products purchased at EC has also increased. One of the reasons for the return is that the image for the fabric hand was different, which is largely due to the senses of people. Therefore, it is difficult to communicate how it feels on the EC. To investigate the method of objectively communicating the fabric hand, a questionnaire survey was conducted on apparel companies that operate EC to clarify their awareness and problems with the expression of textiles on the EC. As a result, approximately 80％of the respondents felt the necessity of objectively indexing the fabric hand and communicating it to consumers. In particular, it was found that there is a need for an objective method of expressing the “thickness of cloth” which was ranked high as a reason for returning products, and the “softness” often used in expression of the fabric hand.
